The cash-strapped Royalists look to have exhausted all options in a bid to deal with their crippling debts and will be wound up at London’s High Court on Wednesday unless something dramatic happens in the next few days.

Fans will be told that the club will not be contesting the winding up petition, brought against it by Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC) due to an unpaid tax bill of around £60,000 dating back over five years.

The only way that the club will be able to survive is if someone agrees to pay off the money to HMRC before Wednesday’s deadline.

But that £60,000 is only the tip of the iceberg, the overall debt stands at close to £250,000 and that would also need to be dealt with.

People across the borough pushed cars, checked on their neighbours, gritted roads and shovelled snow.

In Windsor a number of 4x4 drivers were towing people who had become stuck and on Shoppenhangers Road, Maidenhead, people were out by force pushing motorists whose cars could not grip the slushy roads.

Another community in Hargrave Road, off Gringer Hill, took snow matters into their own hands by supplying their own grit.

Cllr Colin Rayner, cabinet member for highways and street care, said: "It's fantastic that people were helping each other out. I want to thank everyone for their support."

The councillor said that government pressure to use less grit has made treating the roads harder. He is encouraging residents who live in hard to reach areas to contact the council who will supply them with their own grit bin.

No weapons found at Windsor's Liquid night-spot http://www.windsor-forum.co.uk/discussion/10/no-weapons-found-at-windsors-liquid-night-spot Wed, 29 Dec 2010 07:56:07 -0600 luckytenseven 10@/discussions -----

A search of almost a thousand young clubgoers - using a high tech 'search arch' - yielded no weapons.

None of the 965 14-17-year-olds searched using the arch at Liquid nightclub in Windsor were found to be in possession of weapons during the crackdown which took place on Tuesday night.

The operation took place with the full co-operation of the management at Liquid and a team of 10 police officers, special constables and licensing staff from Thames Valley Police and the Royal Borough were on hand to conduct the operation.

Debie Pearmain, Thames Valley Police licensing officer, said: “The search arch is another tool the police use in trying to prevent any potential incidents. It sends a clear message out to everyone that we will not tolerate violent crime in the Royal Borough. We want to educate young people at this age so when they reach the legal age to be drinking alcohol they will all be familiar with the search arch."]]>

"The Windsor Express today includes an article concerning residents' dissatisfaction regarding the 'garish' blue colour of the new recycling wheelie bins. (December 10, 2010, page 3)

Mark Leyton-Smith (of the well respected estate agents Leyton-Smith and Moseley) makes the point that the large bright blue bins are totally unsuitable in a conservation area, as much of central Windsor is. Property owners often cannot take them around the house to a discrete storage area as there simply is nowhere accessible, and so the bins get left out front all week. Mr Leyton-Smith considers them 'environmental vandalism' in an area where repainting your front door in a different colour requires permission.

I totally agree with the sentiments. Where a property is divided into flats a blue bin is provided for every household so there can be quite an accumulation in some areas, given that the regular dustbins need to be accommodated too as well as bins for the garden waste scheme also.

The borough claims that 'the bins are optional' and that residents could opt for smaller bins if they preferred, but I have no recollection of being offered a choice. They just turned up a couple of weeks ago.

The question of colour is one that has been mentioned before on this thread. There is no national colour scheme so there is confusion if you are away from your home patch, on holiday for example. "]]>

Future of controversial office block goes to appeal http://www.windsor-forum.co.uk/discussion/8/future-of-controversial-office-block-goes-to-appeal Wed, 29 Dec 2010 07:51:06 -0600 luckytenseven 8@/discussions http://www.maidenhead-advertiser.co.uk/news/article-19227-future-of-controversial-office-block-goes-to-appeal/

The future of the controversial plan to build 25,464 sq m of offices on the site of Windsor's old Ranks Hovis MacDougall building now rests in the hands of a government appointed planning inspector.

The Royal Borough turned down the application by developers St Congar to build the offices in Alma Road after deciding they were too big and would dominate surrounding roads.

But Windsor and District Chamber of Commerce is supporting the plan, saying that the offices are needed to bring business to shops in the town centre.

St Congar appealed against the Royal Borough's refusal and a two-day appeal hearing was held at Windsor Racecourse on Tuesday and Wednesday this week at which all views were given an airing.

The appeals inspector's decision will be made known in the new year.

The plan has divided the town with 300 angry residents demonstrating on the site of the proposed development last summer.

Royal Borough officers proposed approval of the plan but graphic images shown at the planning meeting of how the offices would dominate the view from surrounding roads led councillors to decide against.

A teenager who was assaulted in a Windsor nightclub in the early hours of this morning is in hospital.

He sustained cuts to the left side of his neck in the incident at 2.30am and was taken to Wexham Park Hospital for treatment.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening and he remains in a stable condition.

Detective sergeant Steve Witts, who is leading the investigation, said an investigation had been launched to establish the cause of the incident.

“The club was extremely busy when the incident happened and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the assault or has any information about the offender,” he added. "We are working closely with the club to identify the person responsible.”
