Recyling in Windsor

"The Windsor Express today includes an article concerning residents' dissatisfaction regarding the 'garish' blue colour of the new recycling wheelie bins. (December 10, 2010, page 3)

Mark Leyton-Smith (of the well respected estate agents Leyton-Smith and Moseley) makes the point that the large bright blue bins are totally unsuitable in a conservation area, as much of central Windsor is. Property owners often cannot take them around the house to a discrete storage area as there simply is nowhere accessible, and so the bins get left out front all week. Mr Leyton-Smith considers them 'environmental vandalism' in an area where repainting your front door in a different colour requires permission.

I totally agree with the sentiments. Where a property is divided into flats a blue bin is provided for every household so there can be quite an accumulation in some areas, given that the regular dustbins need to be accommodated too as well as bins for the garden waste scheme also.

The borough claims that 'the bins are optional' and that residents could opt for smaller bins if they preferred, but I have no recollection of being offered a choice. They just turned up a couple of weeks ago.

The question of colour is one that has been mentioned before on this thread. There is no national colour scheme so there is confusion if you are away from your home patch, on holiday for example. "
